This project is to express my dark times and what I feel how I felt while growing up. I was lost and sad but still tried to be happy during these times. I wanted this piece to be creepy and wired. My inspiration was Junji Ito,Miles Johnston. and Malena Bozzini.

inspiration:
When looking for a creepy artist I thought of Junji Ito a Japanese horror mangaka. I was inspired by his main characters Tomie, I was inspired by this image for the crown of heads, as they are connect it. When wanting to create something creepy I would always look to Junji ito comics, as his work is like a surrealism state. I was inspired by Junji Ito line work as well as work with black and white in his images to give it that feeling of horror or creepy.

Another artist that I was inspired by was an Instagram artist called Miles Johnston. As this painting was created for a poster for a band. I was inspired by the layout of the paint and the balance in the piece as well as the images and symbols used in this piece, creating a surrealism piece of something that would exist in a dream like state. I love how the face are up in the sky with different reactions. and in the middle is just a person with may eyes in the face. When looking at this piece I was inspired by the face in the sky had how the woman has so many eyes. The red skin inspired me to make an eye red in my piece and most of the colors in my piece is just black and skin tone. I just wanted something to stand out like in the painting.

Planning sketch
For this planning sketch I wanted to draw head connect to each other so that to represent my past feeling and the head at the bottom is draw for the represent of me now and for the beginning, I draw the head on the bottom to show that the head on the bottom would look like it wearing a crown. This was my final sketch.
|
This planning sketch I wanted to have draw a dead snake skeletons to represent death and and I wanted the snake to represent a an end to the past and I wanted to drawing flowers growing out of the snake to represent a new beginning.

Experimentation:
For this experimentation I use watercolor, I have used watercolor before, but I never used watercolor on a whole project. I also experimented with a new brand that I have try until now. I used ARTEZA, I heard good thing about their art supplies so i wanted to try it out. When trying out the brand I found it a really good brand, as it watercolors paint are good and also i can take with me any where I go. the colors were easy to mix and when wetting the paint, a lot of the color will come out so I don have to keep going back and forth with it.

Process:
step 1,2&3:
When starting this project you must first grab a illustration board. Once you have a illustration you may start sketching, I started to do planning sketches first. Once I was done with doing my planning sketches, I start to sketch out my final planning sketch on my illustration board. I being to put tape on the outer edges then I being to put little bit of water in the background of the piece and being to use a black watercolor. |
Once I was done putting black in the background in being mixing colors to make a skin tone. I had to remember that there is no white so I had to lighten the colors but put more water to it. When looking to make the skin tone I started with light yellow and the light brown once I mixed those two, I then add little bit of red. Once Done mixing the colors I then being to put a lot of water to make the skin tone lighter. I then being to paint the face on the bottom.
|
Once I was done with the painting the bottom face I being to paint the skin tone for the crown of human head. Once I was done with the skin tone I being to add red under the eyes. I then being to add colors to some of the eyes in some of the head connected. Once I was done I then add red to the under eyes and lips.

Reflection:
When creating this piece I wanted to drawing about my past and how dark is was. I also want to draw something horror, when starting this piece I had many ideas but only two come up when planning sketches. Once I was done I being to sketch out the final sketches, then I being to using water colors I did fine it hard when trying to painted the skin tone. The middle face in the crown has no eye to represent being lost and holding in my feeling. The second head to the right, that is cry represent me letting my feeling go and and beginning a new chapter in life as it the last head seen in the crown. the head to the left show my eyes beginning stapled to my skin, I drew this to represent me sleeping a lot and not being able to stay awake and the tongue being able to stapled representing me holding in my feeling this face was the beginning of me feel sad alone.
The main head has one eye that is red I made it red to because of red can mean spiritual awakening.

I want to find out more of Junji and Miles artwork as their work has many symbolism in their work and I wanted to do something that was symbolism, since their work has many symbolism and I wanted to relate it to my past.
What is the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
my central idea for my inspirational research was to find any artist that had a lot of symbolism in there work and that and similar ideas to connect to them.
